The earlier our team is brought into the process the quicker the development of “permittable” plans for all trades.  Pools are the purview of environmental health and building & standards which impacts MEPs as well as civil design.

Partial list of pool code impact on other trades:

  • All public pools must have both; an equipment and chemical room.

  • Size of equipment room is based on the amount and type of equipment.

  • Size of chemical room is based on the gallons of the pool.

  • Both rooms must have 7’ ceilings and 24/7 ventilation.

  • Equipment room’s floor must drain at .25” per foot to floor drain.

  • A backflow preventor is required in the equipment room with a hose bib.

  • Electrical outlets and adequate lighting is also needed.

  • Restroom quantity is based on bather load and type of facility.

  • Deck must slope away from pool.

  • Documentation is required for slip coefficient of coping and/or deck unless broomed concrete finish.

  • Pool plans must be stamped by an architect or professional engineer who must inspect the pool during build. They also provide an as-built drawing and certification letter that the pool was completed to plan prior to final inspection.

Average pool plan design, review, and permitting is three months.
